Top 100 Poetry Blogs

I was notified the other day that Blogalicious has been included in a just-posted list of the Top 100 Poetry Blogs. Yay, for Blogalicious!

The list is prefaced by this note: "No longer relegated to textbooks, libraries, and anthologies, poets now have an array of options for reading poetry, posting, the latest in news, and more, thanks to the internet. Below are 100 blogs and sites for every poet, from a seasoned professional to a child reading their first poem."

The list is then divided into four sections: Collected Works, Original Work, For Children, and Video and Audio Poetry.

Collected Works, the largest of the four sections, includes Blogalicious and Harriet: The Blog, Poets (Academy of American Poetry), The Best American Poetry, The Best Words in Their Best Order (The Farrar Straus and Giroux poetry blog), and 42 others.

Original Work includes blogs whose keepers post their own work along with other items of interest. Such bloggers include Sandra Beasley, Greg Rappleye, and Mark Doty.

For Children includes blogs that are geared towards young poets. I suspect that teachers might find these blogs very useful. Some of those included are Chicken Spaghetti, Jack Prelutsky, and Barking Spiders: Poetry for Children.

Video and Audio includes blogs where you can find poetry read by poets and lovers of poetry. Poets old and new are included.

I'm bookmarking this site and plan to revisit often.

More Pasta, More Poems

Food blogger Lisa Morgan has been kind enough to feature my poem Linguini today at her blog, Champaign Taste. Needless to say, I'm delighted to have the poem receiving this nice attention. If you haven't visited Lisa's blog, I suggest that you do, that is, if you like food, and who doesn't? She posts great commentary about food, includes beautiful visuals, and offers recipes. And she likes poems about food, thus her interest in my poem.

Also of interest today is blogger Robert Lee Brewer's announcement of his 30 judges for April's Poem a Day project which Robert will host at his blog. Check out the list. I'm happy to be part of such an illustrious group. Each judge will review the top five poems for one day and select one for inclusion in an anthology of the thirty selected. Be sure to head on over to Poetic Asides as soon as April arrives. If you lose the address, it's on my blogroll. Sharpen your pencils and get ready to write, write, write!

Some Nice News

It's nice to receive good news anytime, but especially these days when there's so much bad news. I've had several pieces of the good kind in the past few days. First, Ed Byrne, editor of the online journal, Valparaiso Poetry Review, let me know yesterday that he was featuring my review of Paula Bohince's collection, Incident at the Edge of Bayonet Woods, on the journal's companion blog, One Poet's Notes. The feature also includes links to poems of mine that have previously appeared in VPR. If you haven't yet discovered the journal, check it out. It's one of my favorites. If you haven't yet bought Paula Bohince's book, do so immediately. Paula, in addition to publishing this wonderful collection, recently received an NEA fellowship.

And if you haven't yet discovered Ed's blog, do bookmark it. It's one of the most informative poetry blogs out there. Apparently, lots of people agree with me. Ed's post on Elizabeth Alexander's Inaugural poem received 1500 visitors in one day and 60 comments.

In other good news, my poem, "The Missing Wife," is reprinted in the online journal, On the Issues: The Progressive Woman's Magazine." Also included are poems by Lois Rosen, Annie Finch, and Marge Piercy.

One more piece of good publication news, but I'll save that until next time.
